Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 30th, 2018) – Another week, another night of racing on the monster half mile, the Musco Lighting Southern Iowa Speedway presented by KBOE 104.9 FM. Thirty-Seven young race fans went home with a brand new bicycle to ride on Kids Night presented by PellaMotors.com.

Fifty-Five cars checked in to tame the Monster Half Mile including 10 Sport Compacts, 13 Stock Cars, 12 Sport Mods and 19 Hobby Stocks. Brandon Housley (Sport Compacts), Jason McDaniel (Sport Mods), Eric Stanton (Hobby Stocks) and Cayden Carter (Stock Cars) took the feature wins. Five more drivers earned a free pit pass for next week’s races during the drivers meeting.

The first feature of the night was the Parker Tree Service Hobby Stock 15 lap feature. Christian Huffman started on the pole and took advantage by grabbing the top spot early, but Points Leader Dustin Griffiths worked his way from sixth starting spot to the lead on lap five. Griffiths lead was short as Eric Stanton, had worked his way through Huffman and began to battle for the lead. Stanton took the lead away on lap seven. Stanton cruised to the win, even though a pair of cautions, first for Jesse Williams slowing, in turn, one and then for Rick Van Dusseldorp in turn two, tried to deny Stanton the win. Derek Kirkland grabbed the second place finish ahead of Clint Nelson. Huffman and Craig Brown finished fourth and fifth.

Jason McDaniel took advantage of Jeff Frana opting to go to the tail in the Carter Manufacturing / Van’s Racing Sport Mods 15 lap feature. McDaniel grabbed the lead early and followed by Taylor Elliott from Webster City. McDaniel and Elliott ran first and second until a caution on lap seven for Coleton Pace, in turn, two bunched the field up. Nobody had anything for McDaniel, driver nicknamed “Mighty Mouse,” as McDaniel cruised on to take the win ahead of “Speedy Bray” Brayton Carter, Curtis VanDerWal, Logan Anderson and Elliott.

Cody Phillips led the first lap of the Finish Line Auto Sales Sport Compacts 10 lap main event but the caution came out for debris in turn two. On the restart, Phillips had to contend with Ryan Havel. Havel led lap two, but Brandon Housley worked his way from fifth to grab the race lead on lap three. Housley pulled away and went on to take his fourth consecutive win in as many weeks in Osky. Phillips settled for second, Kyle Boyd was third, Barry Taft was fourth, and Austin Kaplan was fifth.

The final feature of the night was the Midstate Machine Stock Cars 18 lap feature event. Derrick Agee wrestled the lead away early and pulled away meanwhile behind him the battle was heating up between several drivers for second on back. Agee looked to heading to an easy win when the caution came out on lap 12 for Mike Harward blowing up in turn one. Agee had Scott Dickey, Mike Hughes, Cayden Carter and Danny Trasher behind him on the restart was able to hold them until he slid up left the door open and Dickey took advantage. Dickey led the remaining laps to come across the line in first but disqualified in post-race tech inspection, that handed the win over to the Orange Crush Machine driven by the “Gasman” Cayden Carter. Agee, Hughes and Nathan Wood rounded out the top five.

Fire Truck rides from Eddyville Fire Department, and the Nickel & Candy Toss will move to another night because there were 37 bikes given away, so keep your eyes on the Southern Iowa Speedway Facebook for what night that will be on.

Next Wednesday Night, is Middlekoop Seed Corn and Dickey Transport Night at the races plus the second appearance of the Iowa Sportsman Series. Adults are just $8, Military & Veterans are $5, Kids (6-15) $3, 5 & Under Free. Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts are on the card with draw/redraw in all classes. Hot Laps at 7 pm and Racing to Follow.

Then a quick reminder after next Wednesday Night, there will be no races on Wednesday, June 13th because of the Wapello County Regional Fair Races take place at the Eldon Raceway, that night. Racing will return on Thursday, June 21st for Thirsty Thursday.
