Hello Friends,

Things have been revving up here in Des Moines as we are approaching our first funnel week. During funnel week, bills will either be tabled indefinitely or passed through committee so we can better plan our debates in the following weeks. That being said, I have been working with my committee on my bill, HF 184, as several other representative have proposed similar bills that seek to achieve the same goal. I anticipate that this bipartisan collaboration will empower parents to make key decisions to ensure the academic success of their children. If you would like to the current bill, you can follow it via the hyperlink.

As education has been a focal point this week, many organizations came to the Capitol to express their views with the legislature. Through Tuesday morning, we met with organizations like Great Prairie AEA and several superintendents on several important issues. I was excited to see our own Superintendents Paula Wright of Oskaloosa and Kevin Crall of Albia representing our local schools at the Capitol. I enjoyed talking to them about what they came to advocate and what I had been doing to best serve our schools.

Finally on Wednesday, we had several agriculture groups meet with the legislature to discuss policy Ag policy priorities. We started off the day meeting with the Iowa Land Title Association and Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealer’s Association to discuss the challenges facing land and farm implement sales as well as potential legislative options to meet them. Later that morning, I had the pleasure to see Jessica Wells of Centerville and the kids from the Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program. I’m glad to have had the time to meet with such promising young farmers who will be going on to lead and improve the Iowa beef industry.

It has been quite the week here in Des Moines and next week promises to be even busier as we begin to discuss education funding and supplemental growth. I am excited for all that’s to come and all that I can do for Iowa District 80.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about what is happening here in Des Moines, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
