Herbert Clay Wright, age 79, of Hedrick, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Manor House Care Facility in Sigourney, Iowa. He was born on April 20, 1941, the son of Irvin and Marion (McIntyre) Wright at their home in Alexis, Illinois.

Herbert attended country schools and later attended Broadview Academy in Chicago.

On May 20, 1961 he was united in marriage to Judy Adams at the Methodist Church in Monmouth, Illinois. To this union two daughters were born, Kimberley and Christina.

Herbert worked in the factories in Galesburg, Illinois and John Deere in East Moline, Illinois before transferring to Ottumwa, Iowa. He moved his family to the Hedrick area in 1974.

Horses were always a part of his family’s life. Buying, selling and showing. Herbert belonged to many saddle clubs and judged many horse shows in Iowa and Illinois. He also worked as a horse shoer for many years. Family was very important to Herbert, especially his grandchildren who helped care for him, Lynette, Charles and Madison Chittick.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Wright of Hedrick; his daughters, Kim (& Chris) Sieren of Hedrick and Christina Wright of Martinsburg; his grandchildren: Eugene (& Cynthia) Sieren of El Paso, Texas, Kristen (& Shad) Miller of Oskaloosa, Michael (& Erika) Sieren of Hedrick, Adam Sieren of Hedrick, Lynette (& Charles) Chittick of Hedrick and Cody Hansen of Illinois; his great grandchildren: Desiree, Gavin, Jadon, Cyril, Noah, Ryder, Maddyx and Madison; his brothers: Larry (& Toni) Wright of Galesburg, Illinois and Gary (& Michelle) Wright; his sisters: Debra (& Jerry) Schisler, Rose (& John) Morris, Bonnie (& Dennis) Strong and Donna Sage all of Monmouth, Illinois. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Teeny Medina of Galesburg, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; a sister, Marile Eastman; a brother, Bob Wright; and two brothers-in-law, Bud Eastman and Eugene Sage.

Honoring Herbert’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and a graveside service will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Township Cemetery with Pastor Nick Hughes officiating.
Being the simple man he was, the family requests all that are attending to please wear blue jeans, cowboy hats, cowboy boots and flannel if possible.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
There is no visitation planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
