Has Congressman Boswell Forgotten His District?

It was only a few months ago that the new congressional district lines were announced.

Since that time, what appears to be a quick shift in priority for Congressman Boswell has me wondering if he’s still actually representing Iowa’s 3rd District, or if he’s now setting himself pretty for his run in the newly formed 3rd District that will stretch from the Des Moines area South and to the West and the Missouri River at Council Bluffs.

Since the mid April announcement of the new district, Boswell’s public appearances have been to Des Moines, 18 times, West Des Moines and Polk City two times each, with Altoona, Madrid, Indianola, Urbandale and Cumming once each.

On June 25th, Congressman Boswell joined Senator Harkin in reviewing the flood conditions in Western Iowa. There they made themselves available to the press. They continued their tour to the embattled town of Hamburg to make themselves available there at the City Hall.

It’s not come to my attention of him being to his own district checking on current flooding situations, or a tornado that tore up the Southern portion of New Sharon. I might be wrong, he may have called or sent a representative.

During this time, Congressman Dave Loebsack made an appearance at Art on the Square in Oskaloosa. The last time Oskaloosa had Boswell here was for the Town and County Banquet. This event took place nearly a month before the redistrict lines had been drawn.

My challenge to those elected to represent us, is to continue to do so. You were elected by us, here in Mahaska, Keokuk, Monroe, Poweshiek, Marion and Jasper Counties. You will inherit Polk County once again if you win the new 3rd Congressional District, but maybe that is why you continue to work that county during this time.

I did reach out to Congressman Boswell’s Office for a comment on this apparent problem, but received no response.
