GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Jack Taylor ’15 and Patrick Maher ’14 have been named to the 2014 All-Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Team.

Both were second-team selections.

Taylor, a 5-10, 165-pound guard from Black River Falls, Wis. (Black River Falls), had the top scoring performance in the nation this year with a 109-point game in November. He now has the top two scoring performances in D-III history after scoring an NCAA-record 138 points in a game last season.

This season, he leads the nation in points per game with 28.8 and 3-pointers per game with 5.38. He also ranks fifth in the nation in free throws made with 177 and is in the top 10 in the league in steals (1.3 per game), assists (3.0 per game) and assist-turnover ratio (1.1). Taylor reached the 1,000-point milestone for his career this season.

Maher, a 6-6, 170-pound guard from Park Ridge, Ill. (Maine Township), set the NCAA record for assists in a game when he dished out 37 in a January contest. He leads the nation in assists per game at 8.0 and is fifth in assist-turnover ratio at 3.7. The latter figure also leads the MWC.

Maher, who like Taylor also joined the 1,000-point club this season, ranks among the top 10 in the league in scoring (17.6 points per game), steals (1.9 a game) and field goal percentage (51.6).

League champ St. Norbert College swept the individual awards, as Brandon Gries was named the MWC Player of the Year and Gary Grzesk the Coach of the Year.

Joining Gries on the All-MWC first team were Kam Cerroni of St. Norbert, Chris Siebert of Lawrence University, James Lazarcik of Beloit College and Andre Nottling of Carroll University.
