INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Michael Brus ’14 will be making his third trip to the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships, while Grinnell College teammate Hayley Levin ’16 is heading there for the first time.

Unofficial qualifiers for the event, which is slated for March 20-23 at Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas, were announced Wednesday evening.

Brus, from Davenport, Iowa (North), has the top qualifying times in both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. The three-time Midwest Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Year has gone 49.01 in the 100 backstroke and his clocking of 1:45.94 in the 200 backstroke at the MWC Championships set an NCAA D-III national record.

He is also slated to compete in the 200 freestyle, where he’s ranked eighth at 1:39.47.

Brus is no stranger to the national scene, having earned All-America honors three times. He was third in the 200 backstroke in 2012 while placing eighth in the 100 backstroke, and also placed fourth in the 200 backstroke during his first-year. Brus, a qualifier for last summer’s U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200-meter backstroke, was also an honorable mention All-American performer in the 200 freestyle in 2012.

Levin, from Highland Park, Ill. (Deerfield), has enjoyed a stellar first-year campaign in which she was named MWC Women’s Swimmer of the Year. In the national meet field, she’s seeded 11th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:27.66.

She’s also on the “optional entry” list in the 200 individual medley, where she’s seeded 18th in 2:06.75, and 200 breaststroke, where she’s 23rd in 2:21.49.

Grinnell could have divers join the two swimmers at the national meet. That will be determined when the divers compete this weekend at the Regional Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
