Grinnell Expected to Win Fifth Straight Cross Country Championship
GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men’s cross country program has dominated the Midwest Conference (MWC), winning 28 of the last 30 league titles. The Pioneers reign over the MWC is expected to continue in 2016 as Grinnell has been picked by the league coaches to win the conference for the fifth straight season in the annual preseason coaches’ poll.
Grinnell should face some stiff competition this fall as the Pioneers and Lawrence University both earned five first-place votes in the poll. Grinnell finished with 76 points, narrowly edging out the Vikings with 73. Lake Forest College should also challenge for the MWC title after finishing in third with 66 points.
Cornell College totaled 55 points to finish fourth, with St. Norbert College garnered 48. Beloit College was slotted in sixth (42), while Monmouth College is expected to finish seventh (38).
Knox College (26), Ripon College (16), and Illinois College (10) complete the 10-team field.
