GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Michael Brus ’14 (Davenport, Iowa/North) has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week for the third time this season.

That helped complete a Pioneer sweep, as teammate Hayley Levin ’16 was named MWC Women’s Performer of the Week.

Brus shattered a 27-year-old school record in the 1650-yard freestyle in Saturday’s dual meet victory over Coe College. Brus swam the race in 16:35.02, beating the previous mark of 16:36.44 set by Dave Anderson in 1986. Brus’ winning time ranks first in the MWC this season. He also finished second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.86.

On Friday, Brus won a pair of events in a dual with the University of Nebraska Swim Club. He took first in the 100 butterfly in 55.24 and 100 breaststroke in 1:04.59.

This is the sixth time this season a Pioneer male has been named Performer of the Week.
