Green Leads 200, Wilson Wins Long Jump at Kip Janvrin Open

Indianola–The William Penn track and field teams fought through cold and wind to post a few handfuls of top finishes at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson Thursday and Friday.

Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) guided the navy and gold on the track by winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.03 seconds. The junior was also second in the 100 at 10.80 seconds.

Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) matched Green’s gold with a long jump of 23-2.5, just .75 of an inch shy of qualifying for nationals.

Junior Delva (So., Miami, Fla., Hialeah HS) joined Green in the 100’s top ten by taking eighth at 11.35 seconds, while Dexter Jordan (So., St. Louis, Mo., Forrest Park CC) also made it two Statesmen in the 200’s top ten (10th, 23.46 seconds).

The duo of AJ Michael Rachford (Fr., Agency, Cardinal HS) and Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddvyille, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) were eighth (15.43 seconds) and ninth (15.59 seconds), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles, while Trevor Volz (Fr., Adel, ADM HS) took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.68 seconds).

Cody Hill (Fr., New Orleans, La., De Lasalle HS) was sixth in the triple jump (41-8.75) and Brandyn Taylor (So., Lusby, Md., Patuxent HS) was the top thrower, just missing the top ten in the javelin (11th, 129-4).

Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS) was William Penn’s best female finisher as she was sixth in the 200 at 26.48 seconds. Amanda Wakelin (Fr., Ottumwa, Davis County HS) gave the navy and gold two in the event’s top ten, taking ninth at 27.46 seconds.

Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS), who was seventh in the 100 (12.77 seconds), and, Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS), who was eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.47), also did well in the sprints.

Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) was the team’s best hurdler with a seventh-place performance in the 100-meter hurdles (15.29 seconds). Tamara Weltch (Fr., Oskaloosa, Simpson) threw her best in the shot put, managing 15th at 30-6.25.

Next: William Penn will travel to Clinton next Friday and Saturday for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.
