Gordon Arthur Larson, age 70, of Albia, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center in Newton, IA. Gordon was born on May 15, 1951, to Arthur and Violet (Engstrom) Larson in Albia.
Gordon grew up attending school in Albia, graduating with the Class of 1969. He then attended Indian Hills Community College in the Criminal Justice program.
Gordon was united in marriage to Carolyn Pope and to this union, 3 children were born, Jason, Eric and Jessica. Gordon and Carolyn later divorced.
In 1999, Gordon was united in marriage to Joyce McGee at the Avery Church. Gordon and Joyce shared 22 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Gordon worked as a dispatcher before going to work in public safety. He was a public safety officer at the Iowa State Fair and later at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for 44 years.
Gordon enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, and shooting clay pigeons at the Izaak Walton League. Gordon enjoyed visiting with friends, which he did daily at Hardees over coffee. He loved his family and his dog, Missy and treasured the time spent with them.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Joyce Larson; 3 children: Jason (Lisa) Larson, Eric (Darcy) Larson, and Jessica (Ryan) Scott; 3 stepchildren: Cara (Kenny) Emanuel, Cindy McGee, and Jason McGee; 8 grandchildren. Karenna, Kerrigan, Kaleb, Carter and Luke Larson, Dalton Scott, Christie (Willy) Wilson, and Ashley Emanuel; 2 great grandchildren, Kase and Kyler; his service dog, Missy; and many good friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Violet and an uncle, Ben Larson.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Gordon’s family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at that Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Following services, per Gordon’s wishes his body will be cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
