Glen Miner, 91, of Rose Hill, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his home in Rose Hill. He was born January 3, 1923, in Deep River, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Clarkson and Inez Adel (Capehart) Miner.

Glen graduated from Barnes City High School with the class of 1941. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a paratrooper. Glen, along with his company, was among the soldiers that jumped into Normandy, France on D-Day. In 1945, he was honorably discharged from the Army.

Glen returned to Rose Hill and went to work driving a semi. On July 7, 1954, Glen was united in marriage to Wilda Beach at Lancaster, Missouri.

In the mid 1950’s he went to work for the United States Post Office. He retired from the Postal Service in the late 1970’s.

In retirement he enjoyed helping family and friends with projects. He was a member of the K.P. Lodge. He had served as the mayor of Rose Hill and as the secretary for the Old Rose Hill Cemetery. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing. He and Wid attended the Rose Hill Community Church in Rose Hill.

His family includes his wife, Wilda “Wid” Miner of Rose Hill; a brother and his wife, Marvin (& Peggy) Miner of Sigourney; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Velma “Toots” McKie; and a brother-in-law, Dick (& Evelyn) Beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Wayne Miner-who died in WWII, and Virgil Miner.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Del Bittner officiating.
Military Rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Community Church.
