Glen “Chub” Thatcher, 93, of What Cheer, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the English Valley Care Center in North English. Glen was born January 9, 1922 in Indianapolis, Iowa, the son of Pearl and Sylvia Green Thatcher.

Chub attended school at Indianapolis through the eighth grade. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Christian Church. He was united in marriage to Arlene Thatcher on April 25, 1959 in Lancaster, Missouri.

Over the years Chub bought and farmed his family’s century farm. He also hauled grain and livestock for local farmers and operated the Merrell hog buying station in What Cheer.

Glen enjoyed fishing, socializing, tinkering and a cold Pepsi. Chub was a hard worker and would help most anyone in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene Thatcher; two brothers, Vere and Cleo Thatcher; four sisters: Marvel Cassens, Veleta Fair, Dot Sherwood and Letha Hendricks.

Chub is survived by a daughter, Debora Shipley of Keswick; a son, Allen (& Susan) Thatcher of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Stephanie (& Eric) Shilling of Rayville, MO, Stacie (& Cory) Havill of Norway, Susanne Shipley (& Sam Crews) of Des Moines, Allen (& Dawn) Thatcher II of Leighton and Matthew Chilcote of Oskaloosa; ten great grandchildren: Elijah Shilling, Mikiah Shilling, Braeton Havill, Mason Havill, Landon Havill, Allen Chilcote III, Rhea Chilcote, Darrien Chilcote, Zoey Russell and Kegan Russell.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer.
Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday with family present from 5:00 to 7:00
Memorial contributions may be made to Essence of Life Hospice.
