Girls Fall To Washington

Oskaloosa Indians

by Jamie Brockman

The Oskaloosa girls returned to action at home Monday night hosting Washington in nonconference action. The Indians came out on the losing side 54-32.

On paper coming in, they appeared to be two evenly matched teams; however, a slow start for Oskaloosa put them behind early 10-5 after one quarter.

The Indians opened the second quarter on a 5-0 run to tie the score at 10-10, but foul trouble forced Lindsay Holmberg and Kaylee Johnson to miss most of the second quarter, and Washington closed the half on a 13-3 run to lead 23-13 at halftime.

Things then slipped further away from the Indians throughout the second half as Washington got the 54-32 win.

Afterward Coach Jacie White said they need to become tougher defensively. She says that’s her main focus is to get the girls to stay focused mentally and play tough defense.

The Indian girls continue their busy week on Tuesday night when they travel to Bondurant Farrar for a JV/Varsity doubleheader with JV at 6 pm and Varsity around 7:30 pm, then return home to begin the second round of Little Hawkeye Conference games on Friday hosting Grinnell, the number four ranked team in Class 4A tipping off at 6:15 pm.
