OSKALOOSA, IA — The Daily Youth Theatre is thrilled to announce its new after school theatre program, the Daily Arts Academy! The first session begins Monday, February 4th and runs through March 29th. The Daily Youth Theatre aims to bring arts education to youth through programming and community involvement. Students will strengthen creativity, communication skills, confidence, teamwork, and personal growth through the theatre arts.
The first session is all about movement in theatre and explores the idea of showing a story before telling a story. Students will take classic stories, break them down to their core, and rewrites them from the ground up. At the end of the six-week session, a showcase open to parents and the community will allow students to show what they learned.
“We want kids to have fun while they learn skills that will serve them their whole lives,” said Andy McGuire, Youth Director of the program. “It will be a great experience all around.”
All sessions are split into two packages according to age and grade. The red package, for students in grades 1 – 3, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 – 6:00 p.m. with adjustments on days with early outs. Price is $60 per session. The blue package meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for students in grades 4 – 8 from 3:45 – 6:00 p.m. with adjustments on days with early outs. Cost for the blue package is $90 per session.
If you miss the first session, the second session begins on April 8th and explores the concept of storytelling. Students will take the basics of what makes a good story and write their own plays to be performed at the showcase.
Registration and payment will be accepted until the first day of class. If you have multiple students or would like to discuss need-based financial aids or alternate payment plans, those options are available.
