George Edward Bunch, age 81, of Albia, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at his home. George was born on November 20, 1937 to James and Irene (Roberts) Bunch.
George grew up on a farm in rural Lovilia with four sisters and one brother. He attended grade school at Mt. View Country School and high school in Lovilia. George served in the National Guard.
George went on to farm for Lloyd Clark before going into farming himself. He worked for Chamberlains in Albia and then entered the trucking business. First, he hauled livestock, then coal and later became an over the road driver. He loved his trucks and being a truck driver. In all, he drove for about 37 years.
He married Barbara Baird in 1959 at the Methodist Church in Blakesburg, Iowa. They were married 59 years and had three children, Keith Lee Bunch, Lynda Kay (Bunch) Niffenegger and Danny Warren Bunch.
George loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado with family and friends and of course, mules.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara of Albia; his daughter, Lynda (& Jeff) Niffenegger of Urbandale; his granddaughter, Lindsey (& Mike) Frandsen of West Des Moines; his grandson, Lucas Niffenegger of Urbandale; and a great granddaughter, Emerson Faith Frandsen. He also leaves behind three sisters, Ruth Belzer of Albia, Carol (& Jerry) Belzer of Lawrence, Kansas, and Helen Baker of Chicago; his sister-in-law, Sarah Hindman of Fremont, Nebraska; and brother-in-law, Jack Epps of Sun Lakes, Arizona. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irene Bunch; his sons, Keith and Danny; his brother, Walter Bunch; and his sister, Dorothy Cotter.
No visitation is planned.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Tharp Funeral in Albia, with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating.
Burial will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia.
