George England, 87, of Oskaloosa passed away Monday, February 3, 2014, at Mission Regional Health Center in Mission, Texas.

George A. England was born February 13, 1926 to George Irwin and Ruby E. Simerman England in Washington, Iowa.

George attended Smith Creek Rural School in Limecreek Township, Washington County, Iowa. He then attended Wellman High School.

George entered the United States Navy February 9, 1944. He served on the USS Sutton (DE) and was discharged April 2, 1947. Following his service in the Navy, George went home to Wellman and farmed with his father. March 3, 1950, George married Martha Flander in Keota, Iowa.

A job with Fagan Elevator took the family to Keota in 1954. They remained in Keota until 1957 when George was hired by Pamco, Inc. His first assignment with Pamco was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as an outside salesman for 2 ½ years. The family moved to Oskaloosa in 1960, where George continued to work for Pamco, first as plant superintendent, and for the last eight years as the general sales manager. George retired in 1988, after 31 years of working for Pamco.

On January 1, 1996, Martha passed away. George was united in marriage to Marge McClun on December 12, 1998 in Oskaloosa.

George is a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the American Legion and the American Legion Honor Guard.

George’s interests included camping, fishing, car racing, and wintering in Texas.

George’s family includes his wife, Marge of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Sandy Laffoon of Adel, IA; two grandchildren: Amy Laffoon of Kearney, MO and Eric Laffoon of Oconomowoc, WI; one step-daughter: JoDee and (Loren) Van Kooten of Oskaloosa, IA; three step-sons: John (Bonnie) McClun of Lancaster, PA; Gary (Deb) McClun of Fremont, IA, and Nick (Jodi) McClun of Smithville, MO; 15 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Martha (Leo) Hall of Wellman, Iowa, and Mary Jane (John) Wilmoth of Livingston, TN.

George is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha; a sister named Ethelda Moothart and a step-son, Jeff McClun.

Funeral Services for George will be held at 11 a.m., Monday morning, February 10, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Burial will be in Keota Cemetery near Keota, IA. The Oskaloosa Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Honor Guard.
