Gary D. Holliday, 73, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born June 26, 1948, in Oskaloosa, the son of Clarence and Lucille Mayes Holliday.
Gary graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1967.
On May 30, 1967, Gary was united in marriage to Carla Meyers at the Baptist Church in Oskaloosa.
Gary worked at Pella Corporation for over 43 and a half years before retiring.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and most of all fishing. When not enjoying nature outside, he could be found tying his own flies and making his own lures for his next fishing adventure. When his tags were all filled, hunting season ended, and the water was all frozen, Gary enjoyed trips to the casino to try his luck. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
His family includes his wife of over 54 years Carla Holliday of Oskaloosa; two sons, Pat Holliday of Des Moines and Brian Holliday of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, Ashley Holliday, Alexis (& Kenny) Hodge, and Dakota Holliday, 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Kenny (& Barb) Holliday of Wisconsin; a sister, Linda Bishop of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bill Holliday, Bob Holliday, Ronnie Holliday, and Larry Holliday; two sisters, Joyce Kerimsky and Annie Spratt; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Bishop.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Del Bittner officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1-3 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
