October 25, 1936 – July 13, 2014
Oskaloosa, Iowa | age 77

Frank Scott, 77 of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday evening, July 13, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines with his family at his side.

Frank Wilson Scott, was born October 25, 1936 to Farrell and Margaret (Dye) Scott in Oskaloosa. He attended Oskaloosa schools and graduated in 1955. For a brief time he attended grade school in Cheyenne, WY while his father served in the military.

Frank was employed as a machinist at Iowa Valve Company (which later became Clow Valve Company) for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He served as secretary/treasurer for his union for many years.

June 28, 1958, Frank married Marilyn Ellis at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. They later welcomed their daughter, Kathryn into the family. Frank’s foremost passion in life was attending Kathy’s performances in band, orchestra, quintet and wind ensemble; these events brought pleasure and pride to her devoted and loving father. Frank and his family had a yearly vacation in Estes Park, Colorado where he golfed, relaxed and enjoyed the mountains and nature.

Frank had a love for the outdoors and as a young man spent time hunting and fishing. Later, golf became an enjoyable pastime for him, and he played several days a week at Edmundson and Harvest Point Golf Courses where he was a member. Over the years he earned three hole-in-one certificates. Ill health forced him to give up golf, but he would occasionally ride the course with his golfing buddies for 9 or 18 holes. Friends were very important to Frank. An important time in Frank’s day was meeting them for coffee time at Wendy’s, and he never missed a Friday lunch date with friends. Frank was a long time Oskaloosa Indians fan and enjoyed attending the various sporting events. If one word could describe a person, it would be “perfectionist” for Frank: he kept a meticulous yard. This is was why he excelled at his job, golf and most things he set out to master.

Frank’s family includes his wife of 56 years, Marilyn of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Kathy Scott of Waukee; a brother, Jim (Nancy) Scott of Bettendorf; two brothers-in-law: Robert (Liz) Ellis of Oskaloosa and Ernest (Geraldine) Ellis of Des Moines; nieces; nephews; cousins; and an aunt, Dolly Dye of University Park; and a host of friends from Wendy’s coffee time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Brostrom.

Memorial Services for Frank will be held at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Forest Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Wittern of Central United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel and continue until 11 a.m., at which time a procession will form to leave for the cemetery.
