Indianola/Des Moines–Meaghan Foster (Fr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) recorded the longest shot put toss of her short collegiate career to net another trip to nationals at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson Thursday and Friday.

While several season bests were posted at the Open, Foster’s highlighted them all as she placed third in the shot put with an NAIA provisional-qualifying mark of 43-5.25. An indoor qualifier as well, it is her longest throw of the year (indoor included) as she joins Alex Edwards (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Secondary Education) on WPU’s national qualifier list. Edwards qualified in the 800-meter run two weeks ago.

Gabriel Green (Sr., Anniston, Ala., Business Management) did not post a qualifying time, but crossed the line either first or second in three sprinting events. The senior was first in the 200-meter dash at 21.79 seconds and second in both the 100 (10.90 seconds) and 400 (49.14 seconds).

Edwards joined Green with a top showing in the 400, taking third in a time of 49.43 seconds.

Jalen Wilson (So., Desoto, Texas, Undecided) was also in the top ten in his event, placing fifth in the long jump at 22-8.5, while Sam Taylor (So., Eddyville, Iowa, Industrial Technology) just missed the top ten by finishing 13th in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds.

Jazmine Epps (Fr., Princeton, Texas) and Audre Harris (Sr., Junction City, Kan., Undecided) were two other strong female competitors for the navy and gold at the Open. Epps was fifth in the long jump at 17-3.25 and 11th in the 100-meter dash at 12.98 seconds. Harris was 13th in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.63 seconds.

William Penn was also represented at the prestigious Drake Relays this weekend. The men’s 1,600-meter sprint medley squad was 11th with a time of 3:29.17. The squad included Green, Edwards, Kederick Givens (Fr., Wylie, Texas, Communications), and Stepfon Williams (Fr., St. Louis, Mo., Industrial Technology).

Next: William Penn hosts the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday at Lacey Complex Stadium.
