The William Penn University Fine Arts department recognizes the following students for their outstanding contributions to the Arts: Nathan Gray, Erica Fry, and Shane Moore.

Nathan Gray is the Visual Artist of this quarter at WPU. From Rock Island, Illinois, he is a junior majoring in Art and Education. Gray has excelled in each of the three art classes taken at Penn. Director of Visual Art, Professor Victoria Laird, states “Portraits have been his area of focus in the pastel class and the two painting classes he has taken.”

When asked why he enjoys art, Gray said, “Art is something I love because there are no rules.” He added “having the freedom to create anything, without any limits, is the most exciting thing to me.”

The William Penn University Theatre Department would like to recognize Erica Fry for her contributions to both the University theatre program and to the professional programming at the George Daily Auditorium. Erica, a freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa majoring in English with a minor in Theatre, has become a leader in the program, volunteering to help with all of the technical needs of almost every production done this year. She has put in many hours in the days preparing for both professional and university performances and has encouraged other students to get involved with the technical theatre opportunities at Penn.

The music professors have chosen Shane Moore, freshman from Oskaloosa, Iowa as the outstanding student of the quarter. A Digital Communication major, he excels in every aspect of the music department. A member of all University ensembles—jazz band, marching band, concert band, and William Penn Singers—Shane’s dedication to attendance, rehearsal, and practice are an example to be followed.
