MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership is pleased to announce that they have entered a contractual agreement to merge with Family Medical Center, a private medical practice on the MHP campus, effective July 1, 2013.

“This is an exciting time for Mahaska County and the surrounding communities we serve,” MHP CEO Jay Christensen said. “The ultimate goal of MHP and FMC is to create a stronger healthcare system. All parties involved believe that these changes will lead to a better medical experience for our patients.

“Our merger will mean easier access to primary healthcare and stronger collaboration between providers. By transforming the way we coordinate care, our focus remains on the health and well-being of you and your family.”

Family Medical Center was formed in 1966 by Drs. Robert Collison, Sidney Smith and N.L. Saxton with the vision of providing for a patient’s primary care needs. The practice has evolved over the years, but the providers’ dedication to doing what is best for their patients has always remained at the forefront.

“Healthcare delivery has changed profoundly since our practice began,” Dr. Stephen Mineart explained. “We’ve always worked very closely with MHP providers and staff and look forward to being part of a more integrated health system.”

The FMC practice consists of Family Practice Providers Shawn Richmond, MD; Ed Hirl, MD; Allan Peterson, MD; Stephen Mineart, MD; Kim Seda, PA-C; Diane Nutter, ARNP; and Mary Kay Henderson, ARNP.

“We are excited to have the current providers and staff join the MHP family,” Christensen shared. “We value their commitment to serving the healthcare needs of Mahaska County and surrounding communities, and we know this merger will only mean more great things to come.”

Christensen said that at first, not a lot will change within FMC or MHP. “We’re going to take the next few months to look at each of our processes in order to identify best practices for our merged organization. Our goal is to create a cohesive medical practice that improves patient flows and access to primary care when our patients need it most.”

The merger between MHP and FMC is only the beginning of what Christensen said will be an exciting summer for the health system. “We have successfully recruited four doctors to join our Medical Staff in July, our new Patient Care Wing will open in the fall and we’re transitioning to a new electronic medical record which will further our efforts to make healthcare personal for you and your family.

“We value the trust our patients put in us and believe they will see the benefits of this new healthcare landscape very quickly,” Christensen stressed.
