Oskaloosa, Iowa – As is the common theme this year, many community activities that fell victim to the pandemic have returned this year.

The return also allows putting new ideas and different ways of doing things to the test.

Director and curator of the Nelson Pioneer Farm Margaret Spiegel said there were approximately 500 visitors to the farm on Saturday. “We saw a lot of new families, and new Historical Society members participate, and our demonstrators and volunteers noted that they had wonderful conversations with our guests. We were fortunate to have such beautiful weather too.”

Spiegel added that the current farm and facility is in top-notch shape since they’ve been able to complete some large maintenance projects the last few years. “Our visitors also had several new exhibits and new activities to experience during our Festival.”

“We’re excited to host an event where history can truly come alive for people and hope everyone encourages their friends, family, and neighbors to join us in the coming years,” said Spiegel.

In closing, Speigel thanked those that helped make the day a success. “We’d like to thank our community for their support of our site and our events, and especially want to thank the 100+ volunteers who made the event a success. It is astounding just how many hours it takes to prepare for an event like this, but it truly takes a village of dedicated volunteers several weeks to prepare the site, in addition to the months of planning the details.”
