Evelyn Duinink, 95, of Montezuma, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, December 21, 2017 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Evelyn May Duinink, the daughter of Alpha and Mattie “Mae” (Varner) Watts, was born on October 3, 1922 in Barnes City, Iowa.

Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Barnes City High School.

Following graduation, Evelyn worked at the Gibson Savings Bank in Gibson before moving to Montezuma in 1946 to help them open the People’s Savings Bank.

On September, 12, 1953, Evelyn was united in marriage to Clarence Duinink at her parent’s home in Barnes City. To this union one son was born, Marlyn. They continued to make their home in Montezuma.

Evelyn worked 40 years for the bank before retiring in 1986.

Evelyn was a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lafayette Chapter No. 232 in Montezuma and then the Holly Chapter No. 477 in Malcom serving as Worthy Matron and was a Grand Representative. She was also a member of the Knights and Pythias and the V.F.W.

Evelyn truly enjoyed writing poetry, especially for church connection and had the privilege to have some published in the local papers. She was also a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and was very active in Quest Bible Study Class and Dorcas Club. She volunteered for devotions and enjoyed playing Bingo at the nursing home.

Her memory will be honored by her son, Marlyn (& Nickie) Duinink of Montezuma; four grandchildren: Betty (& Perry) Hartzell of Maple River Junction, IA, Robert (& Annie) Moore of Des Moines, IA, Teresa (& Chris) Lavender of Marshalltown, IA and Sally Moore of Barnes City, IA; ten great grandchildren: Dillon, Matthew, Michael, Ashley, Jeremy, Elisa, Melissa, Karlee, Amanda and Madison; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Duinink in 2010; three sisters: Sarah Merle Watts, Inez Trubshaw and Vema Gilbreaith; and two brothers, Warren Watts and Autumn Watts.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Fillmore officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 am with an Order of the Eastern Star service beginning at 10:45.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Holly Chapter No. 477 or the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
