Evan Gwin, 81 of Montezuma passed away Saturday evening, October 30, 2021 at the Unity Point Health Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Evan John Gwin, the son of Arnold and Marie (Mullen) Gwin, was born on March 8, 1940 on the family farm near Guernsey, Iowa.

Evan was one of eight siblings and worked on the family farm and graduated from Guernsey High School in 1958.

Following high school, Evan was drafted by the United States Army.

After he was discharged, he worked for Amana Refrigeration for a few years. He also farmed with his brother Larry and they purchased Front Street Tap in Brooklyn.

Evan married Shirley Rupp on February 20, 1982 in Victor. They purchased Van’s Tap in Belle Plaine in 1983 changing the name to Shirley’s Tap. After selling the business in 1988, they moved to Montezuma where he worked at the Montezuma Tap Room for several years. Following that, he cleaned taps for Grinnell Beverage, eventually retiring.

Evan enjoyed going camping, gardening, socializing and spending time with his friends. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

His legacy will be honored by his children; Connie (Dana) Horst of Montezuma, Sheryl (Roger) Yilek of Belle Plaine, Glennda (Frank Stanek) Mann of Grinnell, Larry Jacobs of Belle Plaine, and Kimberly (Neal) Van Roekel of Montezuma; 20 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; his siblings, Marilyn Baustian of Grinnell, Jan Bushong of Montezuma, Nita (Chris) Stanford of Williamsburg; and many other relatives and friends.

Evan is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, David Jacobs; his granddaughter, Rebecca Imhoff; his siblings, Wayne Gwin, Wendell (“Bud”) Gwin, Larry Gwin and Linda Bryan.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at the Guernsey Cemetery at Guernsey on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with the family present at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
