Eva Breuklander, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Eva was born August 16, 1918, at Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Lena Fuhs Butcher. She graduated from the Sigourney High School. She was married to Paul Hale, and later divorced. On April 9, 1955, Eva was united in marriage to Harold L. Breuklander at Kirksville, Missouri, and Harold died December 11, 1991. Eva enjoyed a long career at the Mahaska County Hospital, working there over 35 years, and spent most of those years as the Personnel Director. She retired from the hospital in 1984. She enjoyed fishing. Eva’s family was the center of her life, and she delighted in spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren. Christmas Eve with the family was always the highlight of the year for her. She instilled in her family a spirit of selflessness and putting family first. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Lady Eagles. Eva always had a soft spot in her heart for dogs.

Her family includes her two sons, Randy (& Becky) Hale of Oskaloosa, Harold (& Kim Johnson) Breuklander of Oskaloosa; a stepson, Terry Lee (& Ethel) Breuklander of LaPlata, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Jason (& Nikki) Breuklander, Josh Breuklander, Eric (& Shannon) Hale, Jessica (& Tony) Long, Jeff Breuklander, Joe (& Tricia) Breuklander, Mike (& Shalie) Nance, and Chad (& Nicole) Armbruster; and eighteen great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Eva was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Mike Hale.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the M.H.P. Hospice Serenity House.
