LINCOLN, Neb. — Volleyball can be an easy sport but it becomes difficult when unforced errors happen and Tuesday night it was those errors that caused Central College to fall to Iowa Conference foe Nebraska Wesleyan 25-16, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22.

Central (6-7 overall, 1-1 conference) had 24 attack errors, five service errors, three block errors and three ball handling errors.

“I thought they had better ball control then we did tonight,” said coach Jeanne Czipri. “They took care of the ball better than we did defensively, offensively and serving. We struggled to pass in the first two sets and that limited us.”

The Dutch rallied to win the third set against the Prairie Wolves (7-3 overall, 1-1 conference) and battled to a 21-21 tie in the fourth set before dropping four of the final five points.

Senior outside hitter Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) was a bright spot for Central, posting her first statistical double-double of the season with 15 digs and 12 kills.

“Mollie does what we need her to do,” said Czipri.

Junior setter Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 34 assists and sophomore libero Brooke Caves (Oskaloosa) had 21 digs.

A homecoming tournament is next for the Dutch as they host the IIAC/NACC Crossover with matches beginning Friday. Central plays Benedictine University (Ill.) at 3 p.m. and Lakeland College (Wis.) at 7 p.m. Saturday’s match against Wisconsin Lutheran College starts at Noon and the nightcap against Milwaukee School of Engineering begins at 4 p.m. Czipri is ready for her first Central homecoming.

“I’m really excited to see what Central College homecoming is all about,” she said. “With all that is going on around campus, I’m excited to see all of our fans. I can’t wait to see all the red.”
