Elsie was born on May 13, 1927, in Albia, IA, to Earl and Verna V. (McAnich) Repp. She was never superstitious about the 13th as she was born on Friday the 13th and was the 13th grandchild on her father’s side of the family.

Elsie attended several country schools before her family moved to town and she started school in the 5th grade at Washington School, graduating with the class of 1944.

Elsie married James Asher Jr. on September 14, 1946, and they shared 55 years of marriage before James’s passing on December 18, 2001.

Elsie and James farmed in the Albia area and she worked at the McLellan store from 1944 to 1955 when she started at Peoples National Bank in the bookkeeping department and also as a teller at the main bank and the drive in bank until her retirement in 1986.

Elsie was a long-time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, joining the United Brethren Church in 1937. She was also a volunteer at the gift shop at the hospital. She liked to read and enjoyed bowling and working in her yard.

Elsie is survived by several nieces and nephews and special friends who became her and James’s family: Carolyn McAlister, Nita (& Dan) Wilson, Janet (& Doug) Brinegar, Jason (& Darcy) McAlister and their children. She is also survived by a good friend, Brian Hindman and his children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Earl and Verna Repp; a brother, Dwight Eugene; a brother in infancy; and a sister-in-law, Judy.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Elsie’s family present 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to meet and greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Roger Henry officiating.
Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia, IA.
A memorial has been established to EveryStep Hospice.
