Edwin E. Sarver, 83, of University Park, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at his home in University Park. He was born November 13, 1940, in Mahaska County, the son of Merrill and Lydia Winegardner Sarver.

He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1959. He furthered his education at William Penn College where he earned a teaching degree.

On March 24, 1963, he was united in marriage to Glenys Swim at the Gospel Tabernacle in Oskaloosa.

Ed taught for many years, starting at West Bend High School, then Ottumwa High School, and last at Oskaloosa. After many years of teaching, he left the profession and started Mahaska Paint and Building Repair. In 1992, he went to work for Musco in Oskaloosa where he was a part of many construction projects before he retired from there in 2019. In retirement he worked part time at Musco helping with various tasks and special projects.

He was a charter member of the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa. He served in various capacities over the years and was currently chairman of the board. His Faith in the Lord, construction talents, and vision for the church have been witnessed for many years at the Calvary Bible Church. He enjoyed ice and open water fishing, golf, and tennis in his early years. He was a talented handy-man and was always there to offer a helping hand or guidance on a project. He had a knack for unorthodox solutions when he was forced to work with limited resources. Most of all he loved the Lord and his family, he always looked forward to church on Sunday and teaching his Sunday School class and was always up for a family get together.

His family includes his wife, Glenys Sarver of Oskaloosa; two sons, Todd (Julie) Sarver and Brian Sarver all of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren, Cari (Shawn) Fopma, Amy (Logan) Hart, Tyce (Allie) Sarver, Dawson Sarver, Reece Sarver, Chloé Sarver, and Gentrie Sarver; six great grandchildren, Aubree and Kinley Fopma, Addison Sarver, Leah Hart, Layla and Baylor Sarver; three sisters, Joyce Galloway of Ottumwa, Marsha Leffel of Oregon, and Nancy Lauser of Wisconsin; five brothers, Wallace Sarver of California, Ernest “Larry” Sarver of Lake Keomah, Roger Sarver of Oskaloosa, Steve Sarver of Melrose, and Curtis Sarver of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and nine siblings.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Douglas Smiley officiating. Burial will be in the Bluff Creek Cemetery in southwest Mahaska County. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa.
