Wrestlers Clear The Mats….. those that follow wrestling in the state of Iowa know those are magical words to not only the wrestlers but to coaches, cheerleaders and fans in general. Those are the words that boom over the intercom for each session to begin the controlled chaos that is the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament.

For three local teams they rode a wave of emotion as some wrestlers moved on to wrestle tomorrow and some had their season come to an end. Albia led the charge as they advanced all 3 wrestlers they had onto the quarter finals, as Blake Lawless won by major decision and Bryce Leshen and #1 ranked Carter Isley both won by pins.

Eddyville took 5 wrestlers and 3 of them will move on to Friday to wrestle, while two had their seasons come to an end. Returning state champion Jeren Glosser won by major decision and moves on to the quarter finals. Bret Wurstra and Hunter Johnston both lost their first round matches only to survive and win in their first round consolation matches, both winning by pins. For two Rocket wrestlers, Adam Proctor and Alex Hanna, their seasons came to an end.

Rounding out day one action, the Sigourney-Keota Savages took 5 wrestlers, of which two of the five are still alive. Those two, Nathan Fritz and Lane Boender, are on the winner’s side and headed to the quarter finals. Savages that had their seasons end today were Caleb Reeves, Noah Boender and Bryce Brown.

Wrestling action starts again tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
