On Sunday April 28th, The Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont Concert Band competed in the Worlds of Fun Festival of Music in Kansas City, Missouri. The EBFHS Band placed 1st in class 2A competition. The band also earned a Division I rating for the first time in EBF Band history at this prestigious contest. There are 70 students in the concert band this year and they are directed by Joe Overton. Bands from 7 different states compete in this festival. The judges are nationally renowned college band directors and composers. This year, the band had the privilege of performing Flight of Valor for the composer of the piece James Swearingen. Flight of Valor was respectfully dedicated to the heroes of United Flight 93 who tragically lost their lives in a Pennsylvania field on September 11, 2001. Swearingen is one of Barnhouse Music’s top composers. This is the 3rd time that the EBFHS Concert Band has placed 1st at this competition.
