Earl Leslie Pierce
October 16, 1938 – March 7, 2017
Montezuma, Iowa

Earl Pierce, 78 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at his home in Montezuma. Earl Leslie Pierce, the son of Harold “Skip” and Kathryn Arlene (Moyer) Pierce, was born on October 16, 1938 in Montezuma.

Earl attended Malcom School. He was born during the Polio Epidemic and the doctors said he would never walk. After his sister, Judy, was born, Earl learned to crawl from watching her and eventually learned to walk.

Earl worked on the family farm with his father and enjoyed driving the tractor and harrow. After the death of his mother, Earl lived by himself with the help of his sister for the last 14 years.

He enjoyed receiving meals on wheels and the conversations with his friends who delivered them. Earl was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and always wore a Iowa Hawkeye shirt giving the Hawks “good luck”. He loved to fish, embroider and working puzzles. Earl absolutely loved his time at the Iowa State Fair. If you asked him, he ran the State Fair Campground gates, waving and talking to the people entering and leaving the campground. Most importantly, Earl enjoyed his family and the big Sunday dinners they had every single Sunday.

Earl is survived by his sister, Judy (& Norman) Hall of Montezuma; his nieces and nephews: Wade (& Gina) Hall of Grinnell, Leslie (& Gretchen) Hall of Grinnell and Jennifer (& Jimmy) Fisk of Montezuma; his great nieces and nephews: Charity (& Derek), Zach (& fiancé, Elise), Allison (& Derek), Miranda (& Willie), Jameson (& Kayla), Cameron (& friend, Danielle) and Braxton (& fiancé, Emily); great-great nieces and nephews: Jackson, Brooke, Sheldyn, Mila, Brylee and baby Fisk; along with many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and great nephew Keegan Hall.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma.
As a request from the family, casual dress and Iowa Hawkeye shirts are encouraged.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Private burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department.
