Eagles Best Indians In Little Hawkeye Opener
The Oskaloosa Volleyball team traveled to Pella Christian to open Little Hawkeye Conference action on Tuesday night. The match was a tall test for the Indians against the #10 team in Class 2A, with the Eagles winning 25-23, 25-22, 25-15. I thought we played well in spurts; I saw a lot of fight in this team. We still need to work on grinding to find ways to score points and not waiting for our opponent to bail us out. Also, increasing our volleyball IQ as the season progresses will really help with identifying situations early. I thought we executed the game plan of attacking from the service line and getting predictable out-of-system balls, but we failed to capitalize on our opportunities as often as we could have. Pella Christian is a quality team and it was a good night of volleyball. For a majority of the team, this was the first varsity conference experience and I think we now understand what it will take to win in this conference and at a high level. We will look at it as a positive learning experience and get back to work at practice.

The Indians will be in action on Saturday with the Varsity traveling to the Cedar Rapids Washington Tournament. Pool play begins at 9:00am against #4 5A Linn-Mar, Davenport Central, and Cedar Rapids Kennedy. The Freshmen squad will travel to Mount Pleasant Tournament. All teams will return to the court on Tuesday @ Grinnell.
