Dwight “Pete” Asher, 79, of Beacon, died Friday, August 2, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born July 17, 1940, in Oskaloosa, the son of Charles P. and Lavern “Fern” (Gorsuch) Asher.

Pete graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1959. During high school he worked for his uncle Jack Miller on his farm. Following high school graduation, he went to work at the Oskaloosa Brick Yard.

On November 24, 1961 Pete was united in marriage to Evelyn Joyce Petersma in Oskaloosa.

In 1970, Evelyn and Pete welcomed their daughter, Rhonda, into their lives.

In 1963 he was drafted into the United States Army and did training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and served his remaining time in Fort Hood, Texas, during which time he and Evelyn lived in Killeen, Texas. After his honorable discharge in 1965 they moved back to Oskaloosa and he went to work for Sears for a year before taking a job at Superior Ideal for 11 years.
Pete began working for Pella Corp in 1977 and was employed there for almost 25 years before retiring in 2003.

Pete enjoyed going fishing, camping, going on family vacations to Branson, Missouri, Wisconsin and Arkansas and loved playing cards with his family and friends. His real joy in life was spending time fishing off the pontoon with his family and grandchildren at the lake.

Pete’s family includes his wife, Evelyn Asher of Beacon; his daughter, Rhonda Asher of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren, Amber Myers of Norwalk and Austin Asher of Oskaloosa; his great grandchildren: Aliannah Myers, Jackson Myers and Rayce Asher, with another great grandchild on the way; his brothers: Bill Asher of Altoona, Jerry Asher of Beacon and Jack Asher of Knoxville. He is also survived by his Army buddy and best friend, David Rear of Wisconsin.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fern Asher.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Mike Sereg officiating.
Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Mahaska County, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in the Bates Funeral Chapel beginning after 3:00 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family.
