PELLA — Picking up a third road victory in as many chances, the Central College women’s soccer team beat Concordia University – Chicago (Ill.) 3-0 on Sunday.

The Dutch (6-2-1, 1-0-0 conference) have won three road games this season in shutout fashion.

“In the second half, we played some of our best soccer of the year,” coach Mike Kobylinski said. “Things are starting to click and I’m happy to see it.”

Central began and ended the scoring with goals from its two leading scorers. Olivia Denham (senior, midfielder, Bondurant, Bondurant-Farrar HS) scored the first goal in the 20th minute while Erin Manion (junior, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) put up the third tally in the 73rd. Manion has scored eight goals and Denham has seven.

Elise Askelsen’s (junior, forward, Indianola) first goal of the season came in between Denham and Manion at the 63:33 mark.

“Anytime those three score in the same match, it’s a good thing for our team,” Kobylinski said.

Senior Olivia Stoops (midfielder, Morton, Ill.) was credited with her third assist of the season on Denham’s goal.

Goalkeepers Taylor Golt (sophomore, Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge HS) and Leann Grandia (freshman, West Des Moines, Valley HS) split the shutout with Golt picking up two saves and Grandia making one.

“It’s always good to a get a goose egg on the board and protect the lead,” Kobylinski said. “Our defense did a really good job, specifically Lauren Goeke (senior, St. Louis, Mo., Parkway South HS) and Hailey Budke (senior, Leavenworth, Kan., Lansing HS) showed good leadership in the middle of the field.”

The final game of the non-conference season for the Dutch is scheduled for Wednesday at Monmouth College (Ill.) at 4:30 p.m.

“We still want to see some good progress,” Kobylinski said. “They’ll be a tough side, but we’ll put our best foot forward and see what we can do.”
