Dutch ranked No. 20 in Golf World/Nike men’s golf poll
PELLA-The Central College men’s golf team slid three spots to No. 20 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Division III Poll of the season.
Central, rated No. 17 in the preseason after tying for 12th in the U.S. last spring, is the only ranked team from the Iowa Conference. Dubuque and Luther are among those receiving votes.
Junior David Watson (San Diego, Calif., Patrick Henry HS) leads the team with a 76.3 average, while all five Central varsity golfers sport a sub-80 average.
Competing in the non-traditional season, the Dutch finished third out of 16 teams at the Carthage (Wis.) Invitational to open the fall and seventh of 18 teams at the Dubuque Invitational last weekend.
Methodist University (N.C.) is the top-ranked team and received six of the 16 first-place votes. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) is ranked No. 2 and received three first-place votes.
The Dutch return to the course on Saturday and Sunday at the prestigious Gordin Division III Classic in Columbus, Ohio at Columbus Country Club. The classic matches the top 11 Division III teams, as determined by the previous year’s NCAA Men’s Division III Golf Championship, and host university Ohio Wesleyan.
