Dutch men pick up wins at regional tennis meet
SAINT PETER, MINN. — At the USTA/ITA Divison III Midwest Regional Friday, four Central College men’s tennis players picked up a pair of wins.
In the opening round, Junior William Isiminger (North Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) snared a singles win against Kevin Bloomquist of Loras College 6-4, 6-2. He was eliminated by Grinnell College’s Bowen Mince, the No. 12 seed, 6-4, 6-3.
“William came out strong in his first singles match,” assistant coach Trevor Budewitz said. “He was able to carry some momentum into the second round but unfortunately wasn’t able to pull out the win.
He also partnered with Brad DiLeo (sophomore, Iowa City, West HS) for a doubles win, beating Tommy Linkenheld and Sean Geleski (Loras) 8-1. They were sent to the consolation bracket in an 8-1 defeat against No. 8 Erik Porter and Jared Saue of Concordia University – Moorhead (Minn.) in the second round.
“They make a very dangerous doubles team,” Budewitz said. “They both have great serves and return well. Staying aggressive and finishing points at the net will be the key to their success.”
In other singles matches, DiLeo lost 6-1, 6-1 against Grant Mauthe (Wis.-Eau Claire). Tanner Finken (sophomore, Carroll, Kuemper Catholic) was defeated 6-4, 7-5 by Matt Krzewinski (Carthage {Wis.}). Ethan St. John (junior, Crystal Lake, Ill., Central HS) was beaten 6-0, 6-0 by Nolan Rademacher (Concordia {Wis.}).
Finken and St. John lost 8-2 in doubles against Tyler Nelson and Jordan Oaks (Coe).
Both doubles teams will continue in the consolation bracket Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m.
