Dorothy Jane Howard, age 94, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Albia. Dorothy was born on May 1, 1925 to Joseph and Lillian (Solari) Furtado in San Jose California.

Dorothy grew up and graduated high school in San Jose, California.

Dorothy worked at the Yardstick, a fabric store that did custom fabric work. She was a talented seamstress and worked there for many years.

Dorothy was very proud of her Italian heritage and she loved cooking many different Italian dishes. She enjoyed going to the Italian Club to play Bingo, as well as going to the casino where she like to play the slot machines.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Gail Cullen of Albia. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne; her parents, Joseph and Lillian Furtado; a sister, Eleanor; and a brother, Melvin.

Dorothy’s body has been cremated and there are no service planned at this time.
