Donald Dale Baxter

Oskaloosa. Donald Dale Baxter, 69, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born November 5, 1941, at Newton, Iowa, the son of Alvin and (Elsie) Virginia Hiemstra Baxter. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1960. On August 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to Pauline Sytsma at the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. Early in life he went to work for Western Electric traveling all over the country. In the early 1970’s he went to work for Pella Corporation, he spent the rest of his working days there, first in production and then as a manager. He retired from Pella Corporation in early 2000’s. He enjoyed racing; everything from go-carts to modifieds. He also enjoyed demolition derbies, motorcycle riding and sports. He delighted in spending time with his family, especially his grand children and great grandchildren. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa.

His family includes his wife of over 46 years, Pauline Baxter of Oskaloosa; two sons: David Baxter and Roger Baxter both of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Amber and Ross; two great grandchildren: Axl and Zayla; a brother: Larry (& Delores) Baxter of Battle Creek, Michigan; a sister: Linda Deeringer of Oskaloosa; his mother in law: Josephine Sytsma of Oskaloosa; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father in law: Dannie Sytsma.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Del Bittner officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the Funeral Chapel from 6—8 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Donald Baxter Memorial Fund.
