Dennis LeRoy Spears, age 75, of Albia passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Dennis was born on January 14, 1944, to Daniel and Frances (Tisue) Spears in Centerville, IA.

Dennis attended school in Lovilia.

He grew up working on the family farm and was his father’s “right hand man.” Dennis later worked at Ragtime Industries in Albia for many years, assembling mousetraps for Kness Manufacturing. Upon retiring from Ragtime, Dennis then attended Day Hab where he participated in many different activities with his friends.

Dennis was very social and loved to visit with people. He enjoyed attending Albia football games and different parades in Albia and surrounding communities. He liked to watch Westerns, especially John Wayne, and also enjoyed watching professional wrestling. He enjoyed working at Ragtime and the camaraderie with his friends and staff there. Dennis was very kind and loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his siblings: Benny (& Annette) Spears of Newton and Connie (& Mike) Haluska of Decorah; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his many good friends that he worked with at Ragtime and attended Day Hab with.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Frances; and a brother, Kenneth Spears.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Dennis’s family present from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to Monroe County Professional Management Day Hab.
