Denise Feeney, 62, of Beacon, died Friday, September 21, 2018, at her home in Beacon. She was born October 20, 1955, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary Steele Lewis.

Denise graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1973.

Following graduation, she was united in marriage to Tom Pitts in Oskaloosa. To this union two daughters were born, Brandy and Angela. Tom and Denise later divorced.

In 1979, she was united in marriage to Mark Feeney. To this union two children were born Paul and Kate. Mark and Denise later divorced.

Denise worked various places throughout her life including, Dr. Salami’s, The Winds, Pella Corporation, and last The Peppertree. She enjoyed working as a bartender and waitress.

In 1995, she met Pat Lafollette, the two of them have been together for the past 22 years.

Denise’s life revolved around her family. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She delighted in having her family around. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, mushroom hunting, gardening, reading, collecting oil lamps, bartending and playing scrabble. Denise had a lifelong love of animals, she especially loved horses and Boston Terriers. She looked forward to Halloween every year and usually enjoyed the tricks of the holiday more than the treats. She spent many hours watching her children and grandchildren participate in various activities.

Her family includes her companion of over 22 years, Pat Lafollette; her five children: Brandy Pitts of Beacon, Angela (& Luke) Parson of Beacon, Paul (& Kristen) Feeney of Oskaloosa, Kate Feeney (& Ryan Hynick) of Eddyville, and Dan Jackson of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Jacque Terrell, Tramanda Jackson, Adien Feeney, Logan Feeney, and Quintyn Feeney; her father, Paul Lewis of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Mike (& Ellen) Lewis of Rose Hill, and Bill (& Shannon) Lewis of Beacon; a sister and her husband, Diane (& Brett) Else of Oskaloosa; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Matthew Dean Lewis; and her animals: Hope, Hoover, Snuffles and her horse Luckey.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Lewis; and a brother, Jim Lewis.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 24, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Mike Sinnett officiating.
As was Denise’s wish her body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
