Delbert Conger 73 of Ollie died Saturday, January 2, 2016. Delbert Gene Conger was born near Ollie, Iowa on June 4, 1942 the son of Woodrow and Wanda VanOrsdall Conger.
Delbert attended country school through the eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Ruth Northup on September 24, 1964 in Richland, Iowa.
Over the years Delbert worked at Falco Company, drove a school bus and was a custodian for the Ollie school, mowed cemeteries and dug graves all while farming on the side.
Delbert was a clean and orderly person who believed everything had a proper place. It was important to be on time and most often early. He often worried about things that most people overlooked. Socializing at Miss Kitties Barber Shop was his way of hanging out with his friends. Delbert loved to cook and always looked forward to the next opportunity to get together with friends and family.
He was a member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church and according to most he was a great neighbor. Simple acts of kindness like blading his neighbors driveway in the winter is what made him smile. Delbert did not know a stranger and would not hesitate to pick up a hitchhiker. He loved to wrestle with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Delbert also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and anything else that would allow him to spend time with his family.
Delbert is survived by his wife, Ruth Conger of Ollie; a daughter, Debbie (& Joel) Kephart of Ollie; two grandchildren: Eric (& Amber) Kephart of Sigourney, and Aaron (& Allison) Kephart of Sigourney; three great grandchildren: Brentley Kephart, Cooper Kephart and Grayson Kephart; five sisters: Arlene Shy of Dixon, MO, Juanita Jones of Martinsburg, Joyce Kopsieker of Ollie, Judy (& Robert) Ellis of Ollie, and Carolyn Skinner of Ollie; and five brothers: Dean Conger of Sigourney, Jim (& Mary Lou) Conger of Ollie, Robert Conger of Packwood, Larry (& Janet) Conger of Packwood, and Dale (& Kathy) Conger of Martinsburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, Linda and Darlene Conger; four brothers: Raymond, Paul, Ralph and Edward Conger; and four brothers-in-law: Bill Shy, Eugene Jones, John Kopsieker, and Rick Skinner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie.
Burial will be in the VanOrsdall Cemetery near Ollie.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the Prairie View United Methodist Church.
