Defender of the Week Laurel to Campbell

Oskaloosa–Cameryn Campbell (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo., Elementary Education) provided excellent defense to guide the Statesmen women’s volleyball team to two league wins last week and her efforts garnered her recognition as she was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week Monday.

Campbell collected her third career weekly honor (first of the year) after helping William Penn (7-2, 2-1 Heart) to victories over Clarke and Culver-Stockton.

In a four-set triumph against Clarke, the senior tallied 20 digs in addition to four assists and one ace; she committed just one reception error all evening.

Then, in a big five-setter versus Culver-Stockton, the libero was good for a season-high 30 digs with two assists and only one reception error.

For the year, Campbell has produced 202 digs (6.12 per set) in addition to 20 assists, six aces, and one kill. She has reached double figures in digs in all nine of WPU’s matches thus far in 2020.

Campbell currently leads the Heart (second in the NAIA) in digs and is second in the conference in digs per set (ninth in the NAIA).

The award is the first of the year for the women’s volleyball program.
