Deceased Female Found Near Vehicle

Ottumwa, Iowa – On evening of Wednesday August 14, 2013 at approximately 10:48 pm, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received information concerning missing person Georgia Joette Gum’s vehicle location. The vehicle was located on 20th Street south of Ottumwa.
On the morning of Thursday August 15, 2013 at approximately 12:40am, Wapello County Deputies located a deceased female matching the description of Georgia Gum approximately 200 yards from her vehicle. It appears the female had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy will be performed on the body and positive identification made by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
