David Ray Youngberg, 39, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, December 28, 2015, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born March 22, 1976, in Oskaloosa, the son of John and Mary DeMello Youngberg.

David graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1994.

Following high school, David worked at Hy-Vee at the meat counter and did some construction work. In 2005, David completed his A.A. in Machine Technology for Indian Hills Community College. Upon earning his degree, he went to work as a machinist at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella.

On November 3, 2007, he was united in marriage to Heather Tarr in Oskaloosa. To this union three sons were born, Jack, Aidan, and Dominic. David’s boys were the center of his life, he enjoyed helping with their little league teams and cub scout projects.

David enjoyed camping, fishing, and watching football and baseball. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows. He also enjoyed watching shows on history and science, he had a great knowledge of these subjects and was always looking to learn more.

His family includes his three sons: Jack Youngberg, Aidan Youngberg, and Dominic Youngberg, all of Oskaloosa; his parents, John and Mary Youngberg of Oskaloosa; a brother, John (& Mary) Clark of Oskaloosa; five sisters: Mary (& Bob) Erdman of Twin Falls, Idaho, Colleen Scassellatti of Perry, Iowa, Kim (& Randy) Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa, Gina (& Dean) Scholtus of Fremont, and Kira (& Jon) Speck of Waukee; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emma and Raymond Youngberg; maternal grandparents, Mary and Joseph DeMello; a brother Bobby, in infancy; a niece, Lindsey Ashman; a nephew, Andrew Scholtus; and an aunt, Judy Veldhuizen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Phillip Schrauben officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Family.
