David Mervin Pope, 67, of Oskaloosa, Iowa passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, NE; 7 weeks after receiving a new heart. He was born on March 20, 1954, to Mervin and Frances Pope.

David grew up in Wright, Iowa and attended school there until it closed and then attended Oskaloosa Jr. & Sr. High Schools and graduated in 1972.

He served in the US Army from 1974 to 1995, when he retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed living in the RV and traveling the country.

He and Deb (Moffet) Vickers raised 5 children: Bridgette Jackson, Mike Pope, Brian Pope, Matt Pope and stepdaughter Michelle Vickers.

David is survived by Deb Vickers; two sisters Edith (& Don) Kurth in Brunswick, GA, and Connie Letner in Tennessee; 8 grandchildren: Chris (& Skyla), Dakotah, Zacharie, Tyler, Nicholas, Shawna, Alexis, Violet; and 2 great grandchildren, Emma and Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, there will be no funeral services.
The family requests no flowers. However, if you haven’t already, please consider being an organ donor.

Dave’s wish, for years, was to get a new heart and then to be able to get back on his Harley motorcycle and ride. By being an organ donor, you can give hope to hundreds of thousands of people that are on the national organ transplant waiting list.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
