David Cullinan, 78, of Hedrick, Iowa, died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on Saturday, May 30, 1942, the son of Martin R. and Frances (Genochio) Cullinan.

David attended school in Minnesota until the 8th grade.

David was united in marriage to Anne Cullinan and they later divorced. On November 25, 1979 he was united in marriage to Gaye Collett in Ottumwa, Iowa.

David worked for the city of Ottumwa for a time before going to work at the Ottumwa Airport. Lastly, he worked putting railroad ties in for the Burlington Railroad Company.

David had a love for cars and enjoyed detailing work. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed being around people.

His family includes his wife, Gaye Cullinan of Hedrick; a son, Chris Cullinan; a daughter, Holly Nord; 8 grandchildren; a stepson, Robert York; a stepdaughter, Michelle York; two brothers, John and Ed Cullinan; a sister, Carol Bainbridge; a brother-in-law, Elmo Collett; and 2 sisters-in-law, Joan Collett and Carol Silvereo. He is also survived by 3 step-nieces and nephews: Chris, Tina and Skyler Collett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dick Cullinan and a step-son, Clark York.

At David’s request his body has been donated to the University of Iowa for the advancement of science and no services are planned at this time. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
