David Kester, 89, of Brooklyn, Iowa died on May 30, 2022. David Eugene Kester, the son of Morris and Mildred (Grovenburg) Kester, was born on June 18, 1932 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Dave was a 1951 graduate of Grinnell High School.

After high school Dave enlisted in the United States Navy.

On August 4, 1956, Dave was united in marriage to Irene Onthank. They were the parents of three children, Eddie, David and Carla.

They lived in Newton and Dave worked at Maytag, retiring in 1981. Dave and Irene also lived in Montezuma, selling their home in 2014 to move to Brooklyn. Irene passed away in 2020.

Dave loved to fish, camp, and go to casino’s where he enjoyed socializing with friends. He attended his grandchildren’s games and activities and taught Pee Wee basketball in Newton at one time. He was an avid Cub’s fan, Iowa Hawkeyes football fan and had the privilege of attending the Capitol One Bowl game in 2005 to watch the Hawks. Dave was a member of the Isaac Walton League, the UAW, and the Blakely Stevens American Legion Post 169.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Carla Sue Kester; his grandchildren: Candace Kriegel of Brooklyn, Cody (& Sam) Guyer of West Des Moines; his great grandchildren: Alexis Timm, Bryanna Timm, Rachelle Timm, Scarlett Kriegel, Jentri Kriegel and Stetson Kriegel; his brother, Frank (& Patty) Kester of Grinnell; as well as many other friends and relatives.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; his sons Eddie and David; and his sister, Betty (Marvin) Taylor.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Graveside Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Hazelwood Cemetery, 120 1st. Ave W. Grinnell, Iowa.
