Darlene Mae Minenga was born May 1, 1923 in the Galesburg area of Jasper County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry W. and Lettie Zickel Minenga. She attended school through eighth grade at European #1 near Pella. Darlene became the bride of Francis C. In 1951 they purchased a farm near New Sharon and lived there until 1993 when they moved to their home in Oskaloosa. Darlene and Francis were true partners in everything; they worked side by side on their farm and went everywhere together. They were always helpful and generous in caring for others, especially their neighbors and extended family. Darlene was baptized on May 4, 2009 by the Reverend Mark Doland of the Park Church of Christ in Oskaloosa, of which she is a member.

Her family includes two nieces and their husbands: Ilda Lou Mol (LeRoy) Van Zee and Shirley Klyn (Larry) Cogley, both of Pella; a nephew and his wife, Keith (Evelyn) Klyn of Peru, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Vera Minenga of Dallas Center, Iowa; and many special friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on June 24, 2009 after 68 years of marriage, and a brother, Wilbur Minenga.
