Dale B. Johnson, 78, of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. Dale Blythe Johnson, son of Clarence “Brownie” and Helen (Oswandel) Johnson, was born, February 6, 1936, in Oskaloosa.

Dale was a 1954 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and continued his education at I.S.U., then called Iowa State College. He graduated in 1958 with an agriculture degree. After returning to Oskaloosa Dale was employed at Brummel Brothers in Leighton as a grain truck driver and Supersweet as a mill plant operator. Dale married Mary Jones, October 10, 1970, at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. Dale and Mary made their home in Oskaloosa and he worked for many years as a firefighter for the city of Oskaloosa. He later was employed at Wm. Penn University as a gym custodian, Pepsi Cola as line maintenance cleaning crew, and lastly as a truck driver for Steven’s Concrete. He retired in 2009.

Dale was a 57 year member of Masonic Council Lodge #644 in Oskaloosa and a member of Tri-Star Chapter #99 of the Order of the Eastern Stars in Eddyville since 1971. He enjoyed history and was a member of the Ottumwa Civil War Round Table. He also enjoyed reading books on aviation history and was infatuated with planes; at one time he also had his single engine pilot’s license. His ultimate hobby was weather charting; he recorded the high and low temperatures of Oskaloosa and served as a weather spotter as well.

His family includes his wife Mary of 43 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Scott Guisinger of Oskaloosa; his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Janet (Wagner) Johnson of Oskaloosa; a granddaughter, Linay Seibert of Oskaloosa; two step-granddaughters: Ashley and Nicole Guisinger from Wichita, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Barbara Jones of Oskaloosa; two brothers-in-law: Charles (Vicki) Jones and Phillip Jones, both of Oskaloosa; a sister-in-law, Connie Pickett of Cleveland Mo; and several nieces and nephews including, Kim Whitaker of Des Moines and Jeff Morgan of Pella.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, C. Dean and Lee Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Bruce Wittern officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 p.m., during the visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Fire Department to be used for educational purposes, MHP Hospice Services, or to Central United Methodist Church.
