Central’s Yets, Van Tasell land league honors
PELLA— Central College’s Travis Yets (junior, Bettendorf) and Kelsey Van Tasell (sophomore, Pella) have been named Iowa Conference performers of the week. Yets was cited as the men’s soccer defensive player of the week and Van Tasell was recognized as the women’s golf honoree.
Yets, a goalkeeper for the Dutch, notched five saves Saturday in a 1-0 shutout against defending league champs Luther College. It’s Central’s second clean sheet of the year. Yets has a 3-4-1 record between the frames and has tallied 29 saves with a .707 save percentage.
Van Tasell turned in a career-best 80 in a dual with William Penn University Sunday at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Van Tasell sliced five strokes off her previous best and finished tied for third in the individual race, just one shot behind co-medalists Natalie Booton and Demi Coertze.
The men’s soccer squad is back on the pitch Tuesday, meeting Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) for the first time ever at 3 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field. The women’s golf team returns to Pheasant Ridge Friday for the opening round of the 72-hole league tournament.
